Snowy mountains shine bright blog
Alas here we finally in Thredbo! Yes I know I said I wasn't able to get here and if I did missing you'd probably start searching in Sydney but who cares? That's what travelling is all about, taking opportunities and seeing where it takes you. To backtrack slightly, after many attempts I found a reasonably priced car hire company near to the Canberra yha so got myself a cute little Hyundai i30 called Rex for two days. Siting in my wild bush camp now I see it's a 2lt car despite being pretty small so this thing should shift. Will have to try that out as I race to get the train on Monday :) A slightly amusing site today was one of the crows, of which there are thousands, flying off with a toothbrush in its mouth. It wasn't mine.
It's places like these that make me envious of australians. Rex and I are about 10km outside of Thredbo tucked between the bush and a small river. The music is playing, the weather is good and even casually writing my first travel sort of book. That was a vague description wasn't it? basically I want to get into writing whilst on my travels. Not trying to create a tour guide or lonely planet style book, more the sort of Michael Palin style casually describing my adventures with a it of humour, culture, history and random rants thrown in the mix. I thought I'd give it a go during my Australia trip and see what comes, it'll no doubt be quite short but if it reads well perhaps I can do something more substantial next winter in Africa maybe. Nice and non-committal there. The night is warm and dry, a few flies about but nothing like Scotland midgies. Actually feel good to be back in the tent after about 2 months. Familiar place that it is.
Felt surprisingly fresh waking up the following morning, something very homely about my tent but the improvised pillow was really bloody hard. Today was summit day, time to tame Kozzy.
