Port Macquarie
The weather forecast was completely wrong, glad to see its not just the Brits in the met office. Glorious day on the beach today, did essentially sod all. Tanning, jumping thru waves and bodyboarding. Now I'm chilling watching the tennis with abit of sunburn but ready todo the same all over again tomorrow.
The yha here is abit odd but very nice. It's unusually small, essentially a bungalow in a residential area. As a result it's very friendly, everyone chats to everyone else and very laid back. It's almost like a hippy place from the 60's without the drugs and flowers, though it's still very colourful. My friend Liam would really like it here I think. Met another Brit who is in the region for 6 months, a German girl making her way towards Sydney and my dorm mate, a Brazilian from Sao Paolo called Roger. He's enjoying his stupidly long university summer here in oz. Had a Danish pair arrive today, probably a couple, again there on a year long working holiday visa. Makes my month long trip look abit feeble at times ha. I think a year here would get abit tiresome though, I like travelling and seeing new places, I guess im abit impatient in that respect.
This afternoon I went I the Koala hospital with Roger and a German girl from the hostel. It was free and you got to see plenty of koalas. Interestingly behind row accidents, the Most common illness they see in koalas is a Cylamidia based infection. It seems odd that such lazy and docile animals (they sleep 18hrs a day) should commonly suffer from an STI.
Tomorrow I'm getting the train up to Brisbane, it's still 10hours travelling away and the train goes REALLY slowly! Even compared to the UK trains, let alone Javalin, bullet or shincansen.
